Description

Under the project, “CSOs For Good Governance: Enhancing civil society’s contribution to governance and development processes in Trinidad and Tobago” (CSOs4GoodGov), participating civil society organisations in Trinidad and Tobago; referred to as Catalysts, were given small grants to implement advocacy action projects during the life of the project – 2017 to 2020.

The University of the West Indies’ Institute for Gender and Development Studies, St Augustine Unit (UWI-IGDS) used its small grant to fund the project, “Advancing Partnerships Toward Gender Responsive Budgeting in Trinidad and Tobago”. This project aimed to provide a gendered analysis of T&T’s national budget process and its implications for peace, security and empowerment within households, highlighting how the national budget process and budgetary allocations have differential and inequitable impact on women, men, girls and boys.

In 2018 and 2019, UWI-IGDs produced; among other things, a media package and did interviews on the importance of Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) in relation to the Trinidad and Tobago Government’s national budget. This was followed by a 2-day Gender Responsive Budgeting workshop, held with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, on ways to mainstream GRB and preparation for the 2020 budget. In addition, UWI-IGDS staff gained insight into the budgetary process.
